🔬What Is Noopept

Noopept (N-phenylacetyl-L-prolylglycine ethyl ester) is one of the most studied synthetic nootropics in the world. Originally developed in Russia in the 1990s as a successor to the racetam family, Noopept is reported to be approximately 1000× more potent than Piracetam on a milligram-for-milligram basis. It crosses the blood–brain barrier rapidly, where it is metabolised into cycloprolylglycine — an endogenous neuropeptide that modulates AMPA and NMDA glutamate receptors and upregulates BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) and NGF (Nerve Growth Factor). Each capsule contains a precise 20 mg research dose, with 60 capsules per bottle.

📊Clinical Studies & Results

Noopept has been the subject of over two decades of Russian and Eastern European pharmacological research. It is one of the few synthetic nootropics with clinical data in cognitive impairment populations.

  • Approximately 1000× more potent than Piracetam in comparative receptor-binding and behavioural models
  • Significantly upregulates BDNF and NGF expression in hippocampal tissue
  • Improves consolidation of long-term memory in animal learning paradigms
  • Demonstrated neuroprotective effects against beta-amyloid toxicity, oxidative stress and hypoxia
  • Russian clinical studies report improvements in attention, memory and emotional state in subjects with mild cognitive impairment
  • Mild anxiolytic activity reported alongside cognitive effects — uncommon for stimulating nootropics

Noopept stands out among nootropics for combining a strong evidence base, rapid onset, neuroprotective profile and a calm-focus subjective signature — at a fraction of the dose required by older racetams.

🏆Benefits

  • Approximately 1000× more potent than Piracetam at the molecular level
  • Crosses the blood–brain barrier within minutes — fast onset
  • Upregulates BDNF and NGF — key neurotrophic factors for synaptic plasticity
  • Modulates AMPA and NMDA glutamate receptors — central to learning and memory
  • Reported improvements in focus, working memory and verbal recall in research
  • Mild anxiolytic profile — calm focus rather than over-stimulation
  • Neuroprotective in models of oxidative stress, hypoxia and excitotoxicity
  • Convenient pre-dosed oral capsule — no measuring of bitter powder

⚠️Possible Side Effects

  • Generally very well tolerated at standard research doses
  • Headache — most often resolved by ensuring adequate choline intake (e.g. Alpha-GPC or CDP-Choline) in the protocol
  • Irritability or over-stimulation if dosed too high or too late in the day
  • Fatigue or brain fog if dosed chronically without breaks — cycling is recommended in research protocols
  • Mild GI discomfort possible if taken on an empty stomach

🎯Ideal For

  • Researchers studying nootropic and cognitive-enhancement compounds
  • Memory, learning and working-memory research models
  • BDNF / NGF upregulation and neuroplasticity studies
  • Neuroprotection research (oxidative stress, ischemia, mild cognitive decline)
  • Mood and anxiety-spectrum cognitive research
